Abstract: For a further view of the swing characteristics of a vertical automatic washing machine, at first ,axial and tangential damping forces in the suspension system are discussed in detail. Based on a rotating coordinate transformation, the vibration model in[5] is transformed into an autonomous form whose steady-state solution is analyzed and methods of solving it are discussed. Bifurcation analyses are then carried out using the continuation package AUTO[7], a Hopf bifurcation phenomenon is observed and parameters relevant to the bifurcation point including rational speed, load, axial damping and spring stiffness are considered with stable and unstable regions discussed at the same time. Bifurcation results are validated by numerical simulations at last.
