Abstract:Base on formulation of the model of rain-wind-induced vibration of three-dimensional continuous elastic cable with the coupled cable-rivulet system, cable equations expressed with modes of cable were obtained using modes decoupling method. Cable and rivulet movement regulations were analyzed when rain-wind- induced vibration occurred. It is shown that rain-wind- induced vibration of cable has characteristics of “velocity restricted” and “amplitude restricted”. The motion of cable includes several natural modes which coupled and transformed mutually. The circular motion of rivulet is non-sine rule with period. Frequencies of moving rivulet are basically in accordance with cable frequencies. The distribution of rivulet along axial direction of cable is not a straight line. The length of rivulet in the sudden dive range of aerodynamic force has an important effect on cable amplitude.
