Abstract:This paper is focused on investigating the brake squeal problem of a disc brake at 2000 Hz. To this end, a FEA model is established and modified according to the experimental modal. The technique of complex eigenvalue analysis is adopted to retrieve the complex eigenvalues and mode shapes. The unstable mode shapes corresponding to the squeal frequency can be confirmed according to the ODS test. Afterwards,the components contribution of this unstable mode is quantified by means of correlation analysis. The component which has the largest contribution to the unstable mode will be optimized in terms of geometry to improve the brake squeal problem. Finally, this feasibility of this approach can be confirmed through the comparison with bench test of SAE J2521.
