Abstract:Based on the characteristic that the damages occurred in a structure are usually local, an improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm for structure damage detection has been developed in this paper by adding a zero mutation ratio coefficient (ZMRC) into PSO. The numerical simulation of single damage for a two-story rigid frame show that the proposed method IPSO has many good properties, such as the faster convergence of the objective function, better identification accuracy, robust noise immunity and less effect of the size of population, compared with the PSO. Further, the effect of the weighed coefficients of objective function on identification accuracy was investigated, which is beneficial to the application of IPSO in the complex structure damage detection.
