Abstract:The cavitation characteristics of a high speed spiral oil wedge hydrodynamic bearing are investigated experimentally using transparent bearing and high-speed camera. The influence of rotating speeds and supply pressures on the shape of cavitation, the location of cavitation and the number of cavitation is analyzed. The parametric equation of the oil film reformation location is derived. The results show the location of the least oil film clearance can be known through the status of the oil film rupture. The cavitaiton of oil film is strip-shaped. With the increase of supply pressure, the rupture location of oil film moves along the rotation direction of axis, the rupture area of oil film decreases, so the increase of oil supply pressure can improve the quality of lubrication.
