Abstract:Additional columns are the main components of the Mega-sub controlled structural system (MSCSS). Employing the probability density evolution theory and strategy of selecting points via sphere of contact, the stress responses of the additional column were analyzed under seismic load. The parameters of the structure and seismic excitation were considered as the stochastic variables during the computation process. The probability density evolution curve surface was presented and the effects with the different connection modes between the additional column and mega-beam were also investigated. The results show that the mean and standard deviation of the additional column stress are reduced effectively by releasing the horizontal restraint between the additional column and mega-beam. This connection mode enhances the aseismatic ability of the integral MSCSS; the non-homogeneity of the probability density of the additional column stress demonstrates that the stress responses of the additional column present obvious non-stationary characteristic, even if the MSCSS is subjected to the stationary stochastic seismic excitation.
