Abstract:The vibration attenuation zones of a laminated periodic structure have been studied. Effects of material and geometry properties on the three important parameters of the first attenuation zone were studied. The harmonic and transient responses as well as experimental test of a finite laminated periodic structure were conducted to highlight the vibration attenuation when the frequency falls into the band gaps. The present investigation provides a sound background for the application of laminated periodic structures in isolation or vibration attenuation for engineering structures.
