Abstract:End-plate connection is one of the main type for beam to column connections of the multistory and highrise steel structures. The reinforced concrete (RC) slab contributes to the strength and stiffness of the composite connections if the composite effect between steel beam and RC slab is considered with effective shear connectors. A 3-D finite element (FE) model was developed to simulate the behavour of the composite joints with flush end-plate connection and RC slab using ABAQUS. The FE model was verified by the other researchers’ experimental results. The FE results match well with the test results in general. Parameteric studies were performed to learn the behavior of the composite joints. The RC slab, the stiffening ribs of column web, the reinforcing bar ratio of RC slab, the thinkness of end-plate and the depth of the beam were considered. A practical moment versus rotation relationship model of the composite joints with flush end-plate connection was proposed to consider the RC slab effect after some parameters of the Eurocode model were modified based on parametric studies. The curves of proposed model agree with the FE results, and the model is refered to further study for the design approach of this type of composite joints.
