Abstract:The couple of hollow spherical joint axial and bending stiffness can be considered in the shell element model. In dynamic stability analysis, it can obtain more accurate results than the common beam element model in which the joint stiffness is not considered. However, this shell element model can’t be used in the simulation commonly, because of its huge quantity of elements. It will cost much more time in computing these tasks than the common model. On the other hand, the common beam element model has fewer elements, but the error of the result in using this model is obvious in dynamic analysis. Accordingly, a new model is put forward, which is based on the common used simple model. The only difference between them is the new one can consider the joint stiffness by using beam element in the spherical joint zone. The precision in simulation can be improved clearly by decreasing the stiffness of tubes in the joint zone, and the computing time didn’t increase much. Therefore, this model is fit for the dynamic stability analysis of such structure.
