Abstract:The measurement accuracy of cable tension is a vital issue on health monitoring of cable stayed structures. The installation of damper on long cables aims to vibration reduction has change the dynamic characteristics of the cable, which will impact on the accuracy when measure the cable tension via vibration method. In this paper, the relative errors expression of cable force identification methods, namely numerical model for cable-damper system with double clamped end, taut string model with double pinned end, taut cable (beam) with double pinned end, and numerical model for taut cable with double clamped end, are presented. By numerical simulation approach, the impact of the parameters of cable and dampers on above cable force identification methods are investigated, the relative error scope of these methods are compared and analysed. The accurate cable force identification methods based on numerical resolution method of frequency transcendental equation of cable damper system are proposed.
