Abstract: In order to optimize the design parameters of seat-bumper on the spacecraft, it’s necessary to develop the numerical model of the expanding-tube bumper. The formula of the axial force during press expansion was deduced on the basis of plastic mechanic theory. The finite element model of seat-bumper was developed by introducing the virtual contact surface using the LS-DYNA software. These two numerical models were validated by comparing the simulation and test results under static and dynamic loads. These two models can be used for the optimization design of bumper parameters. The method of developing numerical models can be as a reference for other related studies.
