Abstract:Twelve hot-rolled H-shaped steel column specimens had been put to test with two different boundary conditions under lateral impact along the major axis by DHR9401-Drop-Weight-Impact-Tester. Time-history curves and residual deformation of specimens were recorded during the course of test. Based on the experimental data, the dynamic behaviors of steel column had been analyzed and discussed. The study shows that the overall bending deflection mainly occurs on the Fixed-Simple supported specimens under lateral impact load during the test run, furthermore, padded with rigid constraint platform under the flange specimens shows local bucking deformation occurring on the collision part. Boundary condition of the specimens has appreciable influences to impact force and impact time distinctly. Overall bending deformation and local bucking deformation of the specimens obviously tend to increase with the increasing of impact energy, the test results reveal the linear relationship mainly between the two factors. The specimens show remarkable anti-impact performance and ductility during the experiment.
