Abstract:A model pier is erected in the laboratory in which damage of foundation is simulated by changing the base constraint springs and multiple mass units are used to simulate the superstructure mass. The model is mainly used to simulate the railway low-height piers. The influence of base constraint, beam mass and lateral pier-top constraint on the dynamic parameters of piers is analyzed by model tests. The optimization algorithm is used to identify damage of model pier with measured mode shapes and nature frequencies as input data. The analysis results indicate that the influence of constraints on the pier top due to track and supports cannot be neglected especially for double-track bridges. The modal frequency and mode shape are sensitive to the condition changes of beam mass, pier-top constraints and base stiffness. Using modal parameters as objective indexes, damage in piers can be located and quantitatively identified by the FE model updating technique.
