Study on simplified method of dynamic calculation model for three-span simply-supported skewed girder bridge

Abstract:A simplified single beam model and a multi beam model of three-span girder bridge with the skew angle of 45° were established by the software OpenSees. Maximum rotation angle and longitudinal displacement caused by earthquake of deck were analyzed in three cases including ignoring pounding effect, only considering longitudinal pounding effect between decks at expansion joints, considering both longitudinal pounding effect and transverse pounding effect between deck and shear keys. And the comparison was made between the results of the simplified models and a detailed model with plate elements. The results show that both the simplified single beam model and the multi beam model can reasonably reflect the actual seismic responses of structures when ignoring pounding effect. When considering pounding effect, the calculation accuracy of multi beam model is generally higher than single beam model. The calculation accuracy of single beam model could be improved by an average of 8.7% through modifying the joint mass distribution of girders.
