Abstract An active balancing system can suppress the unbalance vibration of rotating equipment in real time, and has an important application value in the high-end equipment field, such as high-end machine tools and aircraft engines. As a terminal actuator of active balancing system, the performance parameters of the balancing actuator determine the overall index of balancing system. In the paper, the axial excitation method for the existing electromagnetic-ring balancing actuator was improved, a novel actuator structure based on radial excitation method was proposed. The key performance parameters of the actuator were quantitatively analyzed by establishing a finite element model, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the structure were verified by experiments. The results show that the radial excitation structure can drive the counterweight disc to complete self-locking and step-by-step action in the whole cycle. The structural design is feasible, and the drive voltage can be effectively reduced by 12.5% through the permanent magnet-electromagnetism combined driving method, which provides technical support for the industrial application.
