| Dynamic response tests of polyurea-coated 3-D lattice sandwich structure with negative Poisson’s ratio under impact load |

Abstract Here, anti-impact mechanical properties of four sides concave pyramidal lattice sandwich structure with negative Poisson’s ratio and with or without polyurea coating were studied.The lattice structure with negative Poisson’s ratio was fabricated using the additive manufacturing method.Deformation process, energy absorption characteristics and failure mode of lattice sandwich structure with negative Poisson’s ratio under impact load were obtained with long straight bar impact tests.The test results showed that polyurea coating can increase total energy absorption of lattice sandwich structure with negative Poisson’s ratio by more than 17%, enhance its overall anti-impact ability, significantly reduce concave deformation of its front panel, and effectively avoid large-scale collapse of its core layer; compared with the model without polyurea coated, the polyurea coated lattice sandwich structure with negative Poisson’s ratio remains intact after impact, and its core layer still has the load-bearing capacity to reveal plastic bending deformation.
