Abstract Traditional noise barriers are often designed only considering the effect of noise reduction, but it may transfer too much aerodynamic force to the bridge at the same time. Based on the theory of phononic crystals and Helmholtz resonators, a new type of wind-noise barrier is proposed in this paper. Models of a B-type Metro train and urban rail transit viaduct were manufactured with geometric scale of 1:15. The noise reduction effect is evaluated and the influences of wind-noise barriers on aerodynamic characteristics of train-bridge system were study. Results show that the new type wind-noise barrier has good noise reduction effect in the frequency range of 500 ~ 1600Hz, and the Noise reduction amount can be increased with specific inclination louve rangle. When a new type of wind-noise barrier is set up,the wind-proof effect of the train and the aerodynamic force of the bridge itself are similar to that of a vertical sound barrier, but the wind load of the wind sound barrier can be reduced by up to 9%, which is more conducive to the safety of the bridge and the barrier itself.
