Abstract In this paper, a new structure system of flexible plate plate connection isolation storage tank is proposed, according to the principle of force balance, the restoring force models of rolling isolation device and composite rolling isolation device are deduced, and the mechanical properties of different rolling isolation parameters are analyzed, the simplified mechanical model and motion equation of new type flexible plate plate connection isolation storage tanks are presented, the damping effect is studied. The results show that when the ball radius was determined, with the radius of concave hemisphere increasing, the stiffness coefficient gradually decreased and the isolation period gradually increased, and the rates of change stiffness coefficient and isolation period gradually decreased, it was suggested that the variable stiffness calculation model should be adopted when the design isolation period was small. The new type flexible plate connection isolation storage tanks with rolling isolation device and composite rolling isolation device can effectively reduce the seismic response of the storage tanks, especially the control of base shear and overturning bending moment, but the control of liquid sloshing wave height was limited. The composite rolling isolation device can greatly reduce the displacement of isolation layer and improve the absorption rate of new type flexible plate plate connection isolation storage tanks.
