Abstract On January 8, 2022, an MS 6.9 earthquake occurred at Menyuan, Qinghai. Under the conditions of the same epicenter and similar path, the ground motions observed by nearby stations with a distance of 5.5 km were quite different. To explain this phenomenon, we used Nakamura method (Horizontal-to-vertical Spectra Ratio, HVSR) and Borcherdt method (Standard Spectra Ratio, SSR) respectively to analyse the influence of site effect and topography effect on ground motion based on the records of mainshock and aftershocks. A method was proposed to determine the dominant contributing frequency band of the peak ground acceleration (PGA) by moving the high-frequency cutoff frequency of bandpass filter. The reasons for the large discrepancy of PGA are preliminarily analyzed in different frequency bands by considering site effect and topography effect.
