Abstract As a typical wind- sensitive structure，dynamic tension in transmission lines induced by wind-induced vibration is one of the key issues in wind resistant design of power transmission tower. Based on existing mechanical model for dynamic tension, using stochastic vibration theory, the frequency domain solution of dynamic tension is developed. Introducing the common engineering design parameters to it, the expression is refined and simplified to a Standard deviation response spectrum. Furthermore, a design equation for line wind load is set up. Taking a practical high-voltage transmission towers and lines as prototype, the design loads of suggested formula are compared with the IEC (International Electric Code) specification. Results show that the proposal design load formula can take comprehensive factors into account and with concise, high accuracy properties, can be used as transmission tower wire practical design wind load.
