Abstract For the special configuration of flexible elbow pipe, the testing project installing two same flexible elbow pipes symmetrically or anti- symmetrically is put forward. And based on it, the impact characteristics on different coordinate directions are measured. Adopting step-release method, the natural frequencies and damped ratios of flexible elbow pipes are measured when they are impacted and vibrating on different work conditions. The equivalent masses on the ends of flexible elbow pipes are obtained from the testing curves of mechanical impedances for corresponding work conditions. According to them, we can calculate the impact stiffness, and then the damped coefficients. By analyzing variety rules of the impact characteristics on different work conditions, we obtain some preparatory conclusions and provide referenced elements for designs and calculations of resisting impact.
