Abstract The effects of mistuning on the aeroelastic characteristics of T-tail structure were investigated using the beam T-tail model as example. A modal flutter analysis procedure for T-tail structure was used to account for the effects of mass and stiffness mistuning. Mode localization design of beam T-tail structure was made by introducing mass mistuning on the tip of horizontal stabilizer and stiffness mistuning at the root of horizontal stabilizer. Simulation results show that: the natural frequency and mode shape is changed by mode localization, and with the decrease of mistuning, the flutter velocity will decrease as the mode localization strength increases.
