Abstract Based on bearing-time property of moving acoustic source, a method is presented for identification of tonal noise sources on underwater moving target with uniform linear array (ULA). The bearing-time curve of moving target is got by utilizing high resolution DOA with spatio-temporal two dimensional MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm. After the curve smoothing with outlier removing and mean filtering, the moment when noise sources pass broadside of linear array is estimated accurately by Least Squares method according to prior information of motion trajectory. Locations of noise sources are obtained by referring to the position of a known acoustic source. Considering actual measurement situation, spatio-temporal MUISC method is modified for near field acoustic sources and coherent acoustic sources. Numerical simulations showed the validity of the proposed method.
