Abstract In this paper, dynamic modeling and experiment technique for hub-plate multi-body system was investigated. Based on nonlinear strain-displacement relationship and exact curvature expression, dynamic variational equations for a rectangular plate with large deformation were established using absolute nodal coordinate formulation. Considering structural damping, rigid-flexible coupling dynamic equations for the hub-plate multi-body system were derived. By using the non-contact motion measuring instrument, the velocities of the beam points and the angular velocity of the hub were measured. In addition, by using strain measuring instrument, the strains of points of the plate were measured. Comparison of the simulation and experiment results verified the correctness of the proposed geometric nonlinear formulation.
