Abstract The Runyang Suspension Bridge (RSB) crossing the Yangtse River in China was taken as teh research object. The spatial finite element model of the RSB was established with program ANSYS and the 3-dimensional turbulence wind field considering the tower wind effect was simulated based on the measurement of wind characteristics on some bridge spot. The nonlinear buffeting response was then analysed in time domain and the bridge tower wind effects on wind-induced buffeting response of long-span suspension bridge were specially studied. The analysis results show that the wind effects of the bridge tower have little influence on buffeting response of the main girder of long-span suspension bridges.and also have little influence on along buffeting response of the main towers. However, the traverse-bridge buffeting response of the main towers increases greatly if the wind effects of the bridge tower are considered, so the wind effects can not be neglected. The results are of reference values for wind-induced buffeting response analysis of long-span suspension bridges.
