Abstract The aerodynamic dynamic coefficients varying with the angle of wind attack of conductors with crescent-shaped and sector-shaped ice are measured by means of wind-tunnel test, and it is shown that the coefficients are nearly the same under different wind speeds. Galloping responses of iced conductor segment models under typical wind speeds are carried out by means of the wind-tunnel tests. The finite element models of the galloping test models are set up and their galloping responses are numerically simulated with the numerical simulation method for galloping of iced conductor presented by the authors, and the agreement between the numerical results and those obtained by the wind-tunnel tests justifies the numerical method. The results of the wind-tunnel test provide important data for the investigation on galloping of transmission lines.
