Abstract The optimization model of the perforated damping layer parameters for an embedded co-cured composite damping structure is established on the basis of genetic algorithm. Aiming at high damping and lower stiffness loss, the optimization of composite structure is completed by using the mixed coding method. When the damping and stiffness sensitivities to the area ratio of the perforated damping layer are ignored, the best solution is 96.8% area ratio of the perforated damping layer with the hole diameter 2mm and spacing 9.90mm. If the damping and stiffness sensitivities to the area ratio of the perforated damping layer is considered, the best solution is 96.2% area ratio of the perforated damping layer with the hole diameter 2mm and spacing 9.06mm. The conclusion is very important for the design and manufacture of the embedded co-cured composite damping structures with high damping and big stiffness.
