Abstract Based on the previous research work,an new model considering large deformation was proposed in this work to predict the responses of deep water riser induced by the vortex-induced vibration.The corresponding MATLAB codes are developed. Based on the new modal, the features of the top tension considering large deformation are further investigated at Re=6300 and Re= .The results showed that: at low Reynolds numbers, low order single mode is the main vibration mode, but increased with Reynolds numbers, multiple modes are involved in the vibrations. Besides, large deformation happens. The new model considering large deformation could be used to predict vortex-induced vibrations of long flexible risers.
