Abstract The analytic methods of decoupling in real spaces and earthquake action calculating for non-classically damped high-rise isolated structures are studied systematically. The exact decoupling method in real spaces for asymmetric and non-classical structure is firstly established by using complex mode method and Laplace Transform, the mean-square values of high-rise isolated structural displacement random response are exactly decomposed of linear combination of mean-square values of displacement and velocity random response of serial standard oscillators, the exact solutions of structural correlation combination coefficients are given. Then, according to the mutual relationships between maximum response of serial standard oscillators and seismic response spectrum, the analytic solutions of maximum displacement response and earthquake action of high-rise isolated structures basis on response spectrum are given, an example is given, which verify that the proposed methods are correct, and the proposed methods are general methods, which can be applied to exact decoupling analysis in real spaces and earthquake action calculating basis on response spectrum for general MDOF linear structures with non-classical damping and asymmetric mass and stiffness matrix.
