Abstract Most of the previous computational models of the pavement system were main basis on static load and didn’t consider the effect of vehicle-pavement coupling. On the basis of the vehicle model, a new linear elastic model of the vehicle-pavement coupling system was established which includes the vibration response of pavement structure. The results of the new model were verified with the data measured in field and the new model could reflect the true vibration between vehicle and pavement. The new model had the characters of simple form and high application value. The comparison research on vibration responses of traditional model and vehicle-pavement coupling model showed that the vehicle suspension system was little influenced by the vehicle-pavement coupling effect but the vehicle non-suspension system and the random forces(centralization) between vehicle and pavement were influenced largely by the vehicle-pavement coupling effect. Numerical calculation indicated that the maximum amplitude of random forces in coupling model was 7 times higher than that in uncoupling model. So the influence of vehicle-pavement coupling effect cannot be neglected in the study on pavement structure vibration.
