Abstract On the basis of Lagrange’s equation, a translational - rotational coupling nonlinear dynamic model of two stage planetary gears was established, wherein the backlash, time-varying mesh stiffness and its engaging phase difference, gear mesh composite errors, time-varying planet position angle and torsional and bending stiffness of connector between different stages were considered. According to the relationship between torque of connection shaft and vibration displacements of parts, the meshing frequency coupling phenomenon of mesh force in different stage was studied. When system was under different excitation condition, the forms of meshing frequency coupling were analyzed. At the same time, the dynamic load coefficient and load sharing coefficient of meshing force in different stage, dynamic characteristics of torque of connection shaft were calculated. It provides reference for the design and dynamic analysis of multi-stage planetary gears.
