Abstract In order to study the dynamic response and seismic performance of a super high-rise building with concrete frame-core tube, a series of shaking table tests of a 1/50 scaled model which was designed on the basis of dynamic similitude relationship were conducted. Based on the test data, the natural frequency, damping ratio, vibration mode curve, acceleration amplification factor, inter story shear force, strain and displacement distribution of the structure were calculated and analyzed. The research results indicated that the natural frequency of the structure decreased, damping ratio of the system increased basically and the peak of vibration mode curve reduced with the increase of the vibration times. The dynamic characteristics of structure did not change a lot in the whole process, which indicated that the structural damage was not big. The dynamic response of structure was not only in connection with the magnitude but also with waveform of input seismic waves. Test model structure could meet the requirement of no damage with weak earthquake, repairable with medium earthquake and no collapsing with strong earthquake which indicated that the structure had excellent seismic performance. The research results can provide reference for the aseismic design of similar super high-rise building.
