| Influences of system parameters on nonlinear dynamic characteristics of supercavitating vehicles |

Abstract To ensure steady and high speed motion of underwater supercavitating vehicles, a new control law was proposed on the basis of a traditional control law. It was applied in a four-dimensional dynamic model of supercavitating vehicles. The dynamic map was used to reveal the vehicle model’s dynamic behavior, such as, its tail wing deflection angle and cavitator diameter changes with cavitation number. The bifurcation diagram was used to further explore dynamic characteristics of the supercavitating vehicle model. The nonlinear analysis tools, such as, numerical simulation, phase trajectory diagram and Lyapunov exponent spectrum were used to analyze the motion states of the vehicle model with different parameters. The study results showed that with variation of tail wing deflection angle, diameter of cavitator and cavitation number, motion states of the supercavitating system switch among stable navigation, periodic oscillation and chaotic oscillation; when the system parameters are constant while its initial depth, vertical velocity, pitch angle and pitch angular acceleration are different, the system can have nonlinear dynamic characteristics including transient period, transient chaos and motion state transitions and so on; the results have a guiding significance for stability control of supercavitating vehicles.
