Abstract To study the influence of the liquid medium type on the hydrodynamic ram effect, the influence of water, diesel and aviation kerosene on the hydraulic ram effect was analyzed by ANSYS / LS-DYNA and verified through experiments.The results show that the fragment in the water consumption of energy accounted for about 40.28% of the total fragmentation of the total kinetic energy, followed by diesel, and aviation kerosene consumed minimal energy in the process of liquid-filled container impacted by the fragment with the speed of 1 000 m/s.The attenuation coefficient of the fragment velocity is about 1.29 times of that in the aviation kerosene.The difference of the drag coefficients in the three media is not obvious, which indicates that the liquid density is the main influencing factor of the law of the fragmentation in the liquid.The maximum deformation of the rear wall of the water-filled container is 1.22 times of that in the aviation kerosene container, indicating that hydrodynamic ram effect does more serious damage to the container filled with water.
