Abstract An approach adopting the active detuning vibration reduction technique and hard coating one can be simply and effectively applied in a blisk through depositing hard coatings with different thicknesses on blades of the blisk’s different sectors.Here, to study vibration reduction characteristics of this approach, firstly, the method to assemble the overall structure matrix of a whole active detuning blisk with structure matrix of its each single detuning sector was presented.Taylor expansion and the least square method were used to construct the approximate relationship between blade coating thickness and the corresponding blade detuning matrix caused by coating.Then, the nominal mode subset method was applied to construct the reduced order model of the blisk.Furthermore, the correctness of the proposed approximate relationship and the blisk’s reduced order model was verified through comparing calculation results using the approximate relationship and the reduced order model with those using the finite element method.Finally, this reduced order model and Monte Carlo method were used to simulate and analyze vibration characteristics of an active detuning blisk subjected to traveling wave excitation.The results showed that this approach can be used to significantly reduce the vibration response level of this blisk under its matrix’s random detuning.
