Multiple Scattering of Plane SH wave by an Arbitrary Configuration of Elastic Piles as Barrier

Abstract:A new method that is different from the past ones to calculate the multiple scattering of SH wave by an arbitrary configuration of elastic piles as barrier for vibration isolation has been established. The multiple scattering problem is solved by applying the equations of equilibrium under the assumption of each order of scattering satisfying the elastic boundary conditions. The first order of scattering is generated from the excitation of each elastic pile by incident plane SH wave, and the second order results from the excitation of each pile by the first order of scattering induced by remaining piles, so does the rest to an infinite. Thus, the analytic solution contains sum of all the scattering orders after the undetermined scattering coefficients have been obtained. The contours of normalized displacement amplitude, which represent the ratio of total wave field displacement amplitude to incident wave field, are imposed. The parametric analysis such as scattering orders, shear modulus ratio, the separation between piles, pile numbers and the transmissibility index are investigated in the one-row piles barrier to evaluate the screening effectiveness. These numerical results count future discontinuous barrier design for useful conclusions.
