On the spacer grid’s stiffness affecting the vibration characteristics of PWR fuel rod

Abstract:the fuel rods and control rods, excited by surrounding coolant flow and supported by grillwork at intervals, can be simplified to multi-span continuous beams. Taking account of the actual operating state, this paper studies a 2D model of rod and grid system, and sets up a tie between equivalent stiffness of spacer grid and 1st frequency of the fuel rod. Consequently, the equivalent stiffness of the grid can be identified according to experimental data. The vibration analysis of the rod can be processed once the method of identification’s been proved valid, in contrast to ANSYS’ results.
