Abstract:Structural multi-scale modeling is an efficient way to carry out analyses on structural failure process by considering local damage evolution on component details. One of the key issues in structural multi-scale modeling is how to connect conveniently and accurately models in the big- and small- scales on the trans-scale boundary. In this paper, two kinds of methods have been investigated for the trans-scale connection by using displacement consistent and stress continuous conditions respectively. The computation is implemented by specific supplemental software developed on the basis of the commercial software package ABAQUS, for researching the damage evolution process of the local damage zone in the dog-bone joint component and realizing the analyses on damage of structure under strong loads by trans-scale modeling combining with the connection of the trans-scale boundary . This calculation method is then applied to analyses on dynamic response and damage of a steel truss as a typical stiffening truss in long-span bridge deck. The calculated results lay a foundation that reveal the damage mechanism of the structure under strong loads.
