Influence of Spacing on Vortex-Induced Vibration Characteristics of Twin Separate Steel Box Girders under Large Wind Attacking Angle

Abstract:Based on a bridge with twin separate steel box girders, a number of sectional model wind tunnel tests were performed. Firstly, vortex-induced vibration characteristic of single box girder under 7 different wind attacking angles ranging from -5° to +5° was studied. Then vortex-induced vibration characteristics of twin separate box girders in 16 different spacings under wind attacking angle +5° were investigated and compared with that of single box girder. The spacing ratio D/B is from 0.025 to 4.0, where D is net spacing between twin box girder and B is width of single box. The test results show that influence of spacing on vortex-induced vibration characteristics of both windward box girder and leeward box girder can be divided into four regions.
