Abstract

Concrete is widely used in protective structures, and its brittleness can be effectively improved by imposing cofiniement on the concrete, which makes the anti-penetration performance enhanced.Steel-tube-confined concrete (STCC) has excellent anti penetration performance and wide potenial application in protective structures.In order to study the anti-penetration performance of STCC targets and promote the engineering application, tests on cellular STCC targets and comparative semi-infinite targets under multi-hit of 12.7 mm armor piercing projectiles were conducted, and the corresponding damage modes and parameters were obtained.Moreover, the equivalent penetration resistance of cellular STCC targets was calculated, and the influence of the formerimpact on the subsequent impacts was analyzed.The results show that the confinement of steel tube on concrete can limit the damage zone of concrete within impacted STCC cells; the damage mode of concrete includes the phenomena of funneled crater, penetrating tunnel and side crack; in comparison with the semi-infinite concrete targets, the depth of penetration (DOP) of the cellular STCC targets after the fourth impact is reduced by about 18% and the volume and depth of the funneled crater after the sixth impact are reduced by around 78% and 55%, respectively, which shows that the multi-hit performance of cellular STCC targets is better than that of semi-infinite concrete targets.
