Abstract To study dynamic response and active control of beam structure under the influence of disturbance, firstly, based on the Timoshenko beam theory, the kinetic model of cantilever beam is established by travelling wave method and the accurate dynamic response is obtained, then power flow transmission of structure is determined. The power flow is used as the objective function, and we will get optimized control force amplitude and phase by optimization algorithm, which is applied to the beam structure. Ultimately, active control of power flow for Timoshenko beam structure is realized. The numerical simulation of dynamic response and active control method of power flow for Timoshenko beam structure is made and the results are compared with the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The results show that the dynamic response of beam structure by travelling wave method is accurate and reliable; Timoshenko beam model is more accurate than Euler-Bernoulli beam model in the mid-high frequency domain, and is closer to practical engineering；It proved that active control method of power flow by travelling wave method is right and valid, and this method can efficiently reduce the jitter of the beam structure in the whole frequency domain by numerical calculation and analysis.
