Abstract:Time delay is a more general phenomenon in the structure vibration control. Time delay may not only degrade the performance of the control system but also induce instability to the system. In the view of this practical problem, the objectives of the present study are divided into three parts. The first part presents the stability analysis of a SDOF system with time delayed feedback. The purpose is to find a analytic solution for the maximum allowable time delay. This value can be used as a criterion for deciding the need of time delay compensation as significant degradation in the control performance occurs only when the time delay in the system is close to this value. The second part presents a technique for compensation of time delay-active increasing time delay compensation when actual time delays larger than the maximum allowable time delay. At last, the experimental study of based on displacement feedback active increasing time delays compensation is conducted. The numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the presented time delay compensation control algorithm is effective in reducing the maximum response of the systems and the system stability can be guaranteed
