Abstract:With regard to the application of shape memory alloy (SMA) in the isolation field, investigation of isolation devices based on the unique performance of the SMA is one of the key points. In order to study the SMA isolation effects, a super-elastic SMA isolator was designed using the SMA’s super-elastic effect in this paper. Its theoretical calculation model was deduced from its structural construction and working principle. A finite element model was further established, the results of which was to be compared with the results of the theoretical model. Then the main parameters of the isolator such as the length of the SMA rods, radius of the SMA rods, the angles between SMA rods and horizontal direction were disscussed, and its effects on SMA isolators’ mechanical properties were numerically analyzed. Results indicated that the SMA isolator shows a nonlinear hysteresis behavior, and its properties can be improved in some degree by adjusting parameters reasonably
