Finite-element analysis under seismic response of the Guang Pagoda installed SMA damper

Abstract: A type of SMA tension and compress damper has been designed to control vibration of an ancient pagoda in Guangdong in this paper. Through installing the SMA damper in the ancient tower, the seismic response of horizontal earthquake and vertical earthquake has been reduced. Through the utilization of ANSYS, the simulation analyses between the ancient pagoda which installed SMA damper or not install SMA damper are made respectively on horizontal earthquake and vertical earthquake to examine the control effect of the SMA damper. Analysis Results are compared with the shaking table experiment results. The energy dissipation capacity of the SMA damper designed by this paper has been verified.
