Abstract: Natural ventilation tunnel has been constructed in many areas for its excellent behavior in saving energy. In order to investigate the characteristics of shock wave propagation in natural ventilation tunnel, the flow field of chemical explosion inside tunnel was calculated using finite element method. The influence of the vent area and the distance between charge and vent to shock wave propagation was analyzed. The result show vent had a release effect as chemical explosives were detonated in tunnel. As vent area enlarged, shock wave arrival times became longer and peak pressure value became smaller. Calculation model of the peak pressure attenuation was obtained using dimension analysis. A empirical formula was fitted using the calculation results.
