To study the adaptability of particle damping technology in the seismic control of bridges, a preliminary design principle of tuned particle damper for continuous viaducts has been presented. A 1/10-scale model bridge based on a continuous viaduct has been designed. The shaking table tests on the model bridge with and without dampers have been conducted using the shaking table array system. The research results show the preliminary design method of the tuned particle damper can provide valuable references for the application of particle damping in bridges’ seismic control; Good prospect on the application of tuned particle damper in the seismic control of bridges can be expected according to the research. The tuned particle damper can effectively reduce the seismic response of continuous viaducts while the excitation intensity is one of the keys to the performance of damper. To compare with the Tuned Mass Damper and Tuned Liquid Damper, the Tuned Particle Damper has a more wide control frequency band.
