Research on accuracy of response acceleration methodand response displacement method considering different imbedding depths of underground structures

Abstract:Accuracy of response acceleration method(RAM) and response displacement method(RDM) does not vary with different imbedding depths of underground structures only based on theoretical equation of the above two methods. The performances of three methods, such as RAM, RDM and modified response displacement method(MRDM), were evaluated and compared with that of the dynamic time history method through a selected benchmark numerical example.The internal forces of underground structure were computed in different geological conditions and different depths. It was found thatif the time history method was selected as a benchmark, RAM, RDM and MRDM were affected by site classification, soil thickness and embedment depth, while RAM and MRDM were generally superior over RDM. It was also found that RAM and MRDM were suitable for each embedment depth and RDM was suitable for shallow underground structures.
