Abstract:The technology of real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) has been used in the health monitoring of large structures in recent years. A structure monitoring system based on the RTK-GPS technology is devised for the high pylon of a cable-stayed bridge. The GPS receiver and its deployment, and the monitoring coordinate system for such system are also described. The rough GPS observables are processed by using the wavelet multi-resolution analysis (MRA), to eliminate some error sources or biases (e.g. multipath, the thermal and wind effect) contained within the GPS observables. The low-frequency noise and vibration signals are effectively separated, and the natural frequency of the self-erected pylon is availably obtained by using the frequency spectrum analysis. The measuring result is consistent with the the predicted value by the finite element model (FEM) analysis.
