Abstract:Based on the analysis of nonlinear explicit finite element theory and key techniques on collision numerical simulation, the anti-collision characteristics for a semi-submersible struck by a ship are investigated. The finite element models include the semi and the vessel integratedly, the ship bow and the semi’s column are simulated as elastic-plastic material, taking account of the inertia effects of the striking vessel and the semi. Three head on collision scenarios are defined, where the vessel hit the semi column in the longitudinal, transversal and oblique directions. The curves of collision force vs. penetration, the energy absorption of each structure component and the structural damage deformation are obtained. The anti-collision characteristics of the semi’s column in the scenarios with different striking locations are summarized, influential factors of the structural collision capability, including structural characteristics and striking location, are analyzed, and some suggestions on improving the anti-collision capability of semi are proposed.
