Abstract:This paper presents a new method to compute material damping of concrete-filled steel tube (CFST). Based on the study of material damping and stress amplitude relation by Lazan, the area of hysteresis loop of CFST components under axial cycle load is calculated with with bilinear steel constitution model, confined concrete constitution model and loading-unloading law by OpenSEES system, obtaining energy dissipation of concrete. It is indicated that energy dissipation per unit of reinforced concrete increases with the increase of maximum stress amplitude and decreases with the increase of concrete strength and ratio of steel area and total area. The relation formula of energy dissipation of CFST is established by nonlinear regression with SPSS and will be helpful in material behavior study of CFST and dynamic response computation of CFST structures.
